There are many products on the market that promise you flawless skin. But no matter how many facemasks, serums or moisturizers you try and slather on to the outside of your skin, beauty for your skin starts on the inside. I’ve researched and put together a list of ways to attain beautiful and healthy skin without having to buy products. EAT WELLYour skin is basically a canvas for your body’s health. If you’re not eating well, your body will signal that your diet needs to change by exhibiting skin problems. Sugar, dairy and gluten all have a common role in causing breakouts and inflammation. Try avoiding one or all of these foods for about two weeks and see how your skin changes. Aim to eat dark leafy greens, berries and fish. These types of foods are rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that your skin needs to eliminate toxins and rejuvenate. BREAK A SWEATGlowing skin is one of the many benefits that one can obtain from regular exercise. Getting your heart rate pumping boosts your blood and oxygen circulation. This nourishes your cells and helps remove toxins from your body. Plus, when you break a sweat, this relieves clogged pores leaving you with a natural glow! Exercising also lowers high cortisol levels, a stress hormone that when high can lead to breakouts. STAY HYDRATEDCaffeinated drinks like coffee, tea, soda or alcohol can lead to dehydration. This can cause dry skin and worsen wrinkles. If you want to get a dewy and glowing complexion, guzzling water is essential. Staying hydrated helps your body deliver nutrients to your cells, which keeps them plump and appear firmer on the outside. I try to follow the 8x8 rule: eight 8-ounce glasses of water per day. DON’T TOUCH YOUR FACE From touching your phone to door handles and money, your hands come in contact with a lot of bacteria. When you touch your face, these germs as well as the oils from your hands can then transfer onto your skin and not only cause breakouts, but also cause you to become sick. GET SOME ZZZ…It’s called “beauty sleep” for a reason. Sleep is the time when your body’s skin cells repair themselves. When you lack a good night’s sleep, your skin’s restorative process is cut short and can lead to dark circles, fine lines and breakouts. By getting 7 to 8 hours of uninterrupted Z’s, you’ll wake up with a more smooth and radiant complexion.
